The international training “Let’s give a helping hand!” took place from 20th to 29th of July 2012 in the picturesque mountain village of Bojenica, Municipality of Botevgrad. The course involved 40 youth workers and experts from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Netherlands. The participants were speech and language therapists, project managers and volunteers who work with youngsters with communication disorders. This international and variegated group spent 9 unforgettable sunny days filled not only with learning and discovering of new professional opportunities and horizons but also making new personal contacts, partnership building, networking, … and of course many summer funs.

During the training the participants acquired expert knowledge from great European specialists in field of work with young people with speech and language problems. The participants learnt from each other exchanging expertise, knowledge and good practice. Theoretical sessions were in combination with practical exercises – individual and in small working groups. We visited the SLT Center “Pumpelina” in Sofia where we watched good working practices for therapy of children with communication disorders. We had a meeting with representative of Ministry of Education, Youth and Science and we discussed government politics for non-formal education of youth with disadvantages.

Very important part of the project was intercultural learning. We introduced the participants with the ancient and rich Bulgarian history and beautiful nature. We visited the ancient stronghold “Bojenishki Urvich”, The Historical Museum of Botevgrad and several cultural sights in Sofia. In the hot summer nights we organized unforgettable outdoor funs – Bulgarian and International evenings, Karaoke party, summer cinema, Barbecue, Quiz and others.

“Let’s give a helping hand!” was a really successful and useful training. Furthermore it was an unforgettable and very nice experience for all of us. We don’t just expect but we are sure that it is not the end but it is only the beginning of our long international friendship and cooperation!
